GLOSOUTH is a 5-week online course that promotes the internationalization of higher education through Colombia–South Africa cooperation. Across five units, it explores national perspectives on internationalization, strategies for promoting academic destinations, inclusion and diversity in curricula, training and mentoring programs, and South–South cooperation among institutions. The course includes interactive activities, forums, and assessments that encourage critical reflection and provide practical tools to strengthen inclusive and sustainable global collaboration in higher education.
This unit explores the internationalization of higher education as a transformative process that fosters global collaboration, equity, and social justice. It examines how South Africa uses internationalization to address historical inequalities and support national development through partnerships, while Colombia views it as a means of social transformation focused on peace, inclusion, and environmental justice. Through videos, infographics, readings, and interactive activities, participants will learn about institutional strategies in both countries, assess their understanding through quizzes, and engage in forum discussions to connect these concepts to their own academic or national contexts.
This unit examines how Colombia and South Africa strategically promote themselves as academic destinations to attract international students, researchers, and partnerships. It highlights initiatives like Destination Colombia, Study Medellín, Manizales Campus Universitario, and IEASA, which showcase academic quality, research excellence, and intercultural experiences. By analyzing real institutional cases, participants will explore how both countries enhance their global visibility and collaboration. The unit includes interactive activities—such as a quiz map, multiple-choice questions, and forum discussions—to help learners connect these strategies to their own institutions and identify ways to strengthen international outreach.
This unit focuses on the internationalization of the curriculum as a transformative process that integrates global perspectives with diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education. Both South African and Colombian institutions are moving beyond traditional mobility models toward inclusive practices that embed intercultural and global dimensions into teaching, learning, and institutional strategies—an approach known as “internationalization at home.” These efforts, grounded in social justice and decolonization, aim to create globally relevant yet locally responsive curricula. Through interactive activities, questionnaires, and forum discussions, participants will analyze approaches in both countries and reflect on how their institutions foster diversity, equity, and global engagement in education.
This unit highlights the importance of professional development and mentorship in advancing internationalization within higher education. Both Colombia and South Africa use structured mentorship programs—such as the IEASA Mentorship Program—to build global competencies, foster leadership, and promote inclusive academic cultures. These initiatives empower mentees to develop skills and confidence while allowing mentors to share expertise and support others’ growth. Colombian institutions also emphasize innovative training and international partnerships that enhance continuous learning and global engagement. Through self-assessment questionnaires, quizzes, and forum discussions, participants will reflect on mentorship’s role in fostering international collaboration and identify ways to strengthen professional development within their own institutions.
This unit explores South–South cooperation in higher education as a key driver of mutual growth, knowledge exchange, and sustainable development among countries of the Global South. Rooted in solidarity and equity, it supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through academic mobility, joint research, and capacity building. South Africa leads these efforts through national policies and partnerships, including initiatives at the Universities of the Witwatersrand, Western Cape, and Pretoria. Meanwhile, Colombia advances cooperation through programs like APC-Colombia, UNIMINUTO’s collaboration with Ivory Coast, and Universidad San Buenaventura’s partnerships across Latin America and Africa. Through interactive activities, assessments, and forum discussions, participants will analyze both countries’ strategies and propose solutions to strengthen international collaboration in higher education.
